The Blue Rivers Area Agency on Aging (BRAAA) is one of eight (8) Area Agencies in Nebraska. BRAAA's mission is to provide older adults access to services, that will allow them to live safely and independently, in their own homes.
BRAAA was created when a consortium of counties agreed to form the Area Agency to address the concerns of their older residents. Each County signed an inter-local agreement with the Blue Rivers Area Agency on Aging. The participating Counties are: Gage, Jefferson, Johnson, Nemaha, Otoe, Pawnee, Richardson, and Thayer. BRAAA is responsible not only to elected officials, but also to a 14-member Governing Board. The Governing Board is compiled of elected officials and lay persons that represent each county of our service area. Within the service area, there is a total population of 77,459 people. Of this, 19,488 are elderly (60 years of age or over) or 25.2 percent.
BRAAA is part of a State and National Network designed to assist older adults. BRAAA has been designated as a planning and service area by the Nebraska Health and Human Services - Division of Aging and Disability Services. BRAAA services are funded through a combination of federal, state, county, and city funds, as well as participant contributions for services and charitable contributions. A voluntary contribution is solicited from eligible participants for services received. Individuals are not denied service based on an inability to pay. Eligibility for services is determined by age. (Exception is transportation, which is available to all ages). A person must be 60 years of age of older to qualify, but other considerations may be given. Please contact BRAAA for determination.
