Respite Care is time off for the caregiver and allows her/him
to receive much needed relief and time to do what is needed to take care of themselves.
For example:
- Go to the grocery store
- Visit their doctor
- Have lunch with a friend
- Attend church or school functions
- Rest and relax
- Go out of town with comfort knowing the person they care for
is not alone.
Without relief, a caregiver’s health can deteriorate, adding
to the burden and reducing the quality of care they may provide their loved one.
Individuals that are caring for someone 60 years of age or older
may be eligible. Please call for further information concerning eligibility.
A Care Coordinator from Blue Rivers Area Agency on Aging (BRAAA)
will come to your home and assess the need. Once this has been completed, the Care
Coordinator will assist in obtaining respite providers and coordinating the services
needed.
It is up to the caregiver and the respite provider to agree
upon a fee. The caregiver is responsible for paying the provider. BRAAA will then
reimburse the caregiver a set dollar amount per year to help defray the cost of
the service.
